Vogue: Summertime Home Decor

As spring continues, a midsummer's night draws nearer, and in just a few weeks, we'll be welcoming the longest days of the year. To prepare for the delightful days of chilled rosé and picnics, we've compiled some tips to update your home, ensuring you'll be fully ready for those enchanting summer soirées on June 21.

The key is to bring the essence of the outdoors inside. Soft palettes inspired by nature, complemented by earthy ceramics, and textured elements like thick woven rugs, create a serene oasis from the summer heat and humidity. By incorporating natural elements such as wood, rattan, and malachite accents, you'll infuse your space with an effortless summer breeziness—one that we all wish could linger well beyond Labor Day.

Decorating for Summer

Refreshing your living space for the summer doesn't require a large budget or extensive time investment. Even the tiniest adjustments, such as adding lightweight throw pillows or incorporating breezy, organic textures, can instantly infuse your home with a fresh and seasonal vibe. These subtle changes can rekindle your love for your space and make it feel rejuvenated.

As the birds chirp and nature starts to bloom, it's the perfect time to consider updating your home for the spring, according to Ami McKay, the president and principal designer of Pure Design. Recently, she had an artist apply a lime wash to her living room walls, which served as inspiration to tidy up and rearrange her furniture.

If you're unsure where to begin, don't worry. Follow these interior designer tips to keep your home feeling cool and fresh throughout the entire summer season.

We always talk about interior design upgrades that can instantly boost the value of your home. From single-day projects—like switching up the color of your front door—to more in-depth home renovations like updating the kitchen, and giving your bathroom a makeover. Let’s take this idea and move it outdoors. Curb appeal!

From Martha Stewart’s article: "Just as important as choosing the right paint colors, a cohesive plant palette brings a level of sophistication and balance, and a well-designed landscape increases a home's value," notes Amy Hovis, the principal of Eden Garden Design, an Austin-based landscape design company. "It elevates a property as a whole and creates a magical element that is hard to achieve in any other way."

Greens are IN

It’s the time of year in the Pacific Northwest where we all work to find a little more green in our lives but this year, the look and feel of green is prevelant in interior design. It’s a great way to add a pop of color as well as a deeper, more luxurious look and feel to your home.

According to Lux Deco “From that Kips Bay Show House dining room to India Mahdavi’s Ladurée salon for the Hôtel des Bergues, green shows up in the most prestigious of places and, unlike its blue counterparts, is always slightly unexpected, making it a confident design choice.”

The Gardner Report: Q4 2022

Although the job market in Western Washington continues to grow, the pace has started to slow. The region added over 91,000 new jobs during the past year, but the 12-month growth rate is now below 100,000, a level we have not seen since the start of the post-COVID job recovery. That said, all but three counties have recovered completely from their pandemic job losses and total regional employment is up more than 52,000 jobs. The regional unemployment rate in November was 3.8%, which was marginally above the 3.7% level of a year ago. Many business owners across the country are pondering whether we are likely to enter a recession this year. As a result, it’s very possible that they will start to slow their expansion in anticipation of an economic contraction.
